ho ho ho

Merry Christmas to you.
I'm contemplating a wee holiday from the blog.
However I'm so totally addicted that it mightn't last long.

twas the day before Christmas...

I set up the table tent with the boys duvets and pillows underneath. Some fairy lights made it extra special. They spent quite a bit of Christmas Eve day under there, reading together and eating their lunch. It was just lovely.

I took the boys (plus a cricket bat, tennis ball, soccer ball, two annoying mini recorder/whistles and a drink bottle) to the reserve up the road to let off a bit of energy.  It didn't matter that we got rained on because it was one of those muggy, humid days when the rain is quite welcome.  Reminds me of the summers we spent here as kids.

On the way home #2 picked up a small chunk of concrete and I asked him what he planned to do with it (fully expecting it to be thrown onto the road).

"take it home, put it in a glass of water and we'll have red water and blue water and green water and it will be a mixperiment".

He was so sure that's what we needed to do how could I refuse him?  So I found some old babyfood jars, droppers, water and food colouring.  The big jars held the concrete and rocks and the wee ones the colours.  The boys spent about an hour mixing and stiring and ended up colouring paper towels which we dried and made into laminated bookmarks the next day.  It was a sweet afternoon.

We made to see the big guy just in time

Pay the money.

Wander through the "enchanted forest".

Pose in front of the gorgeous white treess.

We finally made it to see Father Christmas and he had the coolest house I ever saw! I am quite fond of the whole red and white combo.

They both sat on his knee.

#2 is trying to think of what he might like as a present. He and Santa finally agreed on a surprise.

Hi fives from Santa.

Look out his window! We were in the middle of a snow filled forest! They even had cold air piped in to make it feel like you really were there. Lovely.

The Little People angel is just too cute not to feature.

#1's special ornament of 2008.

#2's special ornament of 2008.

They've got a box each (an old shoe box decorated with Christmas cards and wrapping paper) which I've put their special ornaments in.  They were both so excited to see them again, and put them on the tree.  I've wrtitten their initials and the year on each one so we don't get confused (and to avoid fighting really).

We did the big grocery shop yesterday and got three different types of peanuts and peanut butter!  The peanuts are not for the kids (may contain traces of milk) but we sucessfully tried #2 on a bit of peanut butter this morning.  The immunologist had told us to do it on a weekday morning in case we needed to get medical attention (although she assured us that it was very unlikely given his clear test results).  We watched him closely and no reaction. Yippee!

We've been singing the "Peanut Butter Jelly song" all morning.

our weekend

So it started out pretty well... regular palaeontology session,

followed by large amounts of consumption of alcohol (woohoo kids at the grandparents!)...,

followed by a sleep in and then a wee allergic reaction...
followed by six hours in the kids hospital ED.

I woudn't usually bother with photos of all of that except I didn't want to freak people out too much with the swollen face photo.

Poor grandparents took the boys out for a soy fluffy & soy coffees. Even though they triple checked there'd be no dairy, some must have contaminated the fluffy at some point and poor wee #2 had his first use of an EpiPen and his second ambulance ride :(

Yay the Anaphylaxis Action Plan! Boo the Dairy Allergy!

So I'm afraid Fluffies are no longer on #2's dietary list.

The whole Christmas thing has only just started. It looks like these two are over it already! Teehee. We have a cool advent calendar tree which I have put wee notes in to open each morning. So far we've made Christmas tree and star biscuits and paper wreaths. Plus we got out our collection of Christmas books today and read a couple of them. I hide them away during the year which makes them much more special. Despite the yawning shot they did like the cutting and gluing that we did to make the wreaths and they turned out pretty cute.  One is on daddyB's office/suite door at work.

If you haven't tried edamame (soy beans) before they are super yummy. We've been eating them at Japanese restaurants for years but just recently found them in the supermarket freezer. Yummo! #1 not so keen (he does have a nasty cold though) but #2 gobbled them up.

Got the RAST results back and hurrah there's no longer any peanut allergy to speak of! Although we're not rushing out to push any peanut butter down his throat we do intend to let him have some one day soon. Apparently it's best to try it on a weekday morning (just in case) or while you're at the doctor's for something else!

The dairy allergy is still serious and we're just expecting that it will be around for a long time (if not forever). I think he'll be retested sometime before he starts school.

Although there seems to be dairy in so many things, we have learnt to find substitutes and cook a lot of stuff from scratch. And it's not like he's wasting away!! Both boys hopped on the doctor's scales and were 20.7kg each (exactly the same). Crazy!  I hope #1 recovers from his cold pretty quickly. After three days off from suspected pox last week (which it wasn't), then the weekend and today off, he's needing some kindy time! I'm needing some time too!
