wet weekend

Had a campsite booked for tonight but we were scared off by the civil defence weather warnings.  We didn't really want to spend the whole time inside the tent with the kids trying to keep them away from the canvas walls.  So today we devised a list of fun indoor things to do with the boys, wrote them on strips of paper and popped them into a container.  We've been taking one out from time to time.  So far we've done baking, played junior scrabble (yes there were tears) and had some family drawing time.  B and I also managed a couple of games of Mancala (pictured above) over breakfast.

bagel faces

Our favourite book at the moment is a preschool cookbook called Pretend Soup. It has excellent recipes (involving lots of healthy but yummy foods) and great illustrated instructions that  #1 can easily read.  We've made popovers, pretend soup, quesadillas,  lemon-lime soda pop, and yesterday... bagel faces.

A quick substitution of hummus for the cream cheese (for our dairy allergic one) and it was smiles all round.

new bling

It's pretty serious when you have to wear one of these on your wrist (it's a medic alert bracelet).  We've had many conversations about that you wear it in the bath, in the pool, to bed, to kindy... everywhere! It's on tight enough that he can't get it off, but loose enough so he won't outgrow it by winter.  On the back it says "anaphalaxis dairy" and has a phone number to call and an id number.  He's been at morning kindy for two weeks now and is LOVING it.  Pretty tired though.

Eating with friends and not sharing food is becoming more of an issue for us because they take a packed lunch twice a week.  I'm going with one of the teachers to an allergy seminar so we can make sure the kindy is doing what's best for everyone.  There's another wee girl there who has anaphalaxis with egg, plus someone with peanut allergy too.  It really is a constant underlying stress that we live with.  I worry that he'll struggle with making friends when he's older if their parents are scared to have him come to play or he'll be left out of parties :o(  I don't even want to think about school camp!!

playing families

The boys had a kindy friend come to play and their favourite game was "mummy, daddy and baby". Here you see mummy tucking baby into bed. It was interesting to watch the family dynamics, Daddy going off to work and Mummy having a nap!
