fashion week

Busy, busy, busy with school holidays this week. It's been nice to have both boys around and yet there has been an awful lot of grumpy sulky behaviour from the bigger boy. Sorry for no proper updates. Here's a couple of photos I took at the Trelise Cooper show at fashion week last week. Very glamorous.

awards

This is Lisa (who I work with at ImageMe) and I in Wellington last month. We went down there for the Iris Awards (professional art photography awards) and NZIPP conference. B took the week off and looked after our boys. He even managed a few blog posts of his own and they were pretty great. This was my entry into the awards, which scored just one point off a bronze (bugger).

easy like a saturday morning

I had fun this morning cutting out pictures from an old Little Golden Book (one I'd bought ages ago for 20c because the pictures were cute) and sticking them onto this tray. The whole decoupage thing is perhaps a bit uncool these days but I quite enjoyed it.

The boys spent the morning deconstructing my burnt out electric beaters and then constructing a robot from the bits. B stuck it together with the hot glue gun, unlike the ones at kindy this one is super hot.

B was inspired when he heard about Tinkering School. It's an American summer camp where kids get to have a great time pulling things apart and then inventing cool new things using real tools. They have video of a roller coaster made by seven year olds. How cool would that be? I want to go.

learning to peel

Is it just me or does the idea of a small person using a peeler make you nervous too? If we'd sent him to a Montessori preschool he'd have mastered this skill long ago. I think they practice on carrots. As it is I had the bright idea to put the potatoes on a fork to keep his fingers from getting peeled. Icky! It worked pretty well though and he's keen to do it again soon.

it must be love

Our youngest has been asking if he can have a friend to play lately. He's a little envious of big brother's after school play dates and wanted to be having his own. So we invited his best friend home from kindy for lunch and a play. She is a sweet girly thing (such a change). They played footsies under the table at lunchtime. It was too gorgeous. Then they sat very close together on the couch and read a book before playing dress ups and hide and seek and lego and little people.

3 years ago today...

I had a two year old and a 9 month old. Both in nappies.

We were in Christchurch visiting the grandparents.

The 2 year old was sick and fell asleep on me on the couch.

The time has gone so fast.
Feeling a little sad and nostalgic today.

ouch!

So last weekend's pie was delicious. However the planned outing turned into a bit of a disaster.

Thought I'd share the baking photos though. Both boys helped by putting in the bacon, the eggs, the basil and the tomatoes. Then we used alphabet cutters for the top, followed by an egg wash.

We got to Motat and #1 face planted into some big gravel. He bruised and grazed his face, elbow and knee on one side and was inconsolable. This was before we'd even made it inside! So our cunning plan to spend the day there (our yearly pass expired the next day) turned into a quick trip home for pamol and a nap. He looks a little like he's been in a fist fight.

Still the pie was good.

So here were are, my little sister and I, in our mummy-made Wonder Woman costumes sometime in the late 70's or early 80's. Aren't they so cool? My lovely Auntie emailed me this photo after reading that I was looking for it. This is also the lovely Auntie who is going to Australia soon and if I wanted anything from Ikea!! Oh how I love Ikea :o) I need to head over to their web site and start making me a wee list. I promise it won't be too big!

I spent my last nightschool sewing session making a crocodile cape for our sweet school boy. Not interested in a lightning bolt (which I had one spare) but a cute green croc. Looking forward to seeing NanaD and Poppa tonight as they're back in town and we've all been missing them lots.

powerman

Yesterday was super hero and princess day at kindy. I saw only one female super hero (amongst all the princesses) and she was so gorgeous! Pink sparkly cape and headband with green frog gumboots. I've always been a huge Wonder Woman fan and when we were small my sisters and I had fantastic home made costumes (sadly I don't have a copy of that photo). I have a large Wonder Woman collection these days (toys, an autographed mouse pad (I got to meet her), drinking glasses and a barbie).

Here's my kindy hero proudly showing off his mummy made costume. The mask template can be printed out here. I just made it with two layers of felt and sandwiched the elastic in between. The cape is a repurposed shirt of B's, hacked up, zigzagged around the edges and with a bit of velcro at the neck.

all round greatness

Our school boy was super proud of himself last week when he was awarded one of the "role model" sashes in assembly. They give them out to kids for a variety of reasons and they get to wear them for a week. He was pretty keen to wear it to bed the first night! Apparently he got it for "all round greatness"... wish we'd been there to see it. He is a great kid, and so grown up since starting school two months ago.

picnic

Check out the awesome pie the boys and I made this morning (I was up far too early). It's filled with bacon and eggs and tomatoes. Yummo! I have process photos too but we're off to Motat for the day (our year pass expires tomorrow) once B and #1 have finished washing B's mate's boat. If I feel like it I might add the other photos later on. Have a great Sunday, hope you get to spend it with your family.

underwater bliss

I can't believe how much fun we had at the pool with our new underwater camera. It is super sweet. It wasn't the easiest thing to get the older one to go under for a photograph though! In the end he did really well. We really need to sign them up for some swimming lessons soon. The little one is completely fearless, in a dangerous way. Cousin Maddy (1) came for a swim too, she's pretty fearless herself.

nothing sweeter

Really, even at three and a half, he's still completely adorable when he takes a nap during the day. It doesn't happen that often anymore which is both good and bad I guess. Good because he can cope without it quite happily... and not so good because I really enjoy the peace and quiet!

I guess there's the added bonus that I can sneakily take his picture too ;o) One day soon the naps will be gone for good and he'll only sleep at night, in the dark, I won't be able to peek at him quite so easily then. I love how soft and warm he is, how he snuffles a little but is quite difficult to wake up when it's time to walk down to school. We took his scooter today and he had a great time whizzing along the footpaths.

He got a couple of big splinters in his foot this afternoon while playing with friends on our deck. Ouch! DaddyB and I had to employ team tactics to remove the nasty things. Note to self - much easier to get out a splinter after a bath.

I'm loving the change in the weather lately. Shorts and summer shoes for the boys. The garden is in much need of attention. Almost time to buy a couple of tomato plants to put in (they're the vege that we've had the most success with so far). We got some strawberry food yesterday and #1 cut the top off the packet tonight all keen to do a bit of gardening himself. Perhaps tomorrow will be another beautiful day.

back to school

Not much to say except we're back! Had a fantastically madly busy time away in Christchurch visiting family. B & I got plenty of time to play Dominion and the boys got lots of grandparent and auntie and uncle time too. All in all a lovely time but it's nice to be home. It's such a sweet photo I needed to upload it right away. We had his first parent-teacher interview last week. It's so weird that we're the parents now... it doesn't feel like that long ago since I was the student and my parents were heading off to chat to my teachers. Time goes so quickly.
