We're blessed (or cursed) by early waking children. Six am is pretty good in our place. Unfortunately B and I always stay up far too late and tend not to want to get up so early (ear plugs in and roll over). The kids are not allowed to watch tv in the morning either so usually that means they play and are noisy.
A wee while back I bought a $3 pack of markers from the warehouse. I wrote the boys a note "Mummy and daddy are sleeping in till seven o'clock. Please don't wake us up. There are new marker pens for drawing and paper..."
I also left out some handmade books (just cut paper stapled into a cardboard cover) and the boys made an animal book each. They were gorgeous and the sleep in divine. I think I need to do it again soon.

Michael Park Steiner School Fair last year and gave them to the smallest one for his birthday (they wrapped up his pop up soccer goal). Since then they've been used creatively in so many forms... gift wrap (for real and pretend gifts), huts, blankets, baby swaddling, costumes, head scarves, wings, as a backdrop for lego pirates, animals etc. (more photos below). The fair is coming up again next weekend and if you can make it to Auckland with your kids I would highly recommend it. It is an awesome magical day for the whole family.
masses of wrapping
as a sword belt
as a backdrop for fishy photos
as a cover on the hammock which led to vigorous swinging
wrapping for pass the parcel
and a variety of huts

Don't you love it how sticking out your tongue helps with concentration? It's been a while since the handbag camera (aka the G9) was cleared off so I made it my mission tonight. I found photos of Motat and the very cool new (old) double decker tram. We didn't get to go on the tram but the cars were big fun for the kids.
Taken today outside Eden Park (we went for the opening day). The kids very excited to see John Key and our new Mayor Len Brown. If we were even slightly into sports there were a lot of famous players to grab autographs from. Nope... our two just did a haka out the front. Nice to see all of the "gold coin donations" going down south to help with the Canterbury earthquake appeal.

Note for Nanas - protective gear was worn at all times (you can see his helmet in the shadow). Okay he's only four and he's not really skating yet. I took him to the skate park recently so he could have a go on his board (he saved up for it a long time ago but it mostly stays in our laundry). It was a school day so the park was empty (thank goodness) and we had a blissful time, him pottering about with his skateboard and me taking photos.

B had the morning off from work the week before last (a rare and wonderful thing). We headed to a a yummy local cafe for coffee, carrot cake and cards. The boys were at school and kindy so it was a lovely adults only time. I don't think we would try and play Race for the Galaxy with them... maybe in a few years. The carrot cake was really, really good and the company perfect.
