Even when you're five, it's nice to be able to go back to kindy for a visit, and even better if there is cotton bud egg painting with metallic paints. Yippee!  We popped in on the morning of the hearing tests and both boys enjoyed a bit of kindy crafting.

hearing trouble

This was the double chocolate muffin that my school boy chose for his morning tea after his hearing tests this morning.  He had the morning off and it was quite nice.  I think he's only had one day off in his three terms at school!

So off we went to the audiology department, he was quite excited really.  However having failed two tests at kindy and school I'm not sure that the excitement was warranted.  I think some of it was due to the cafe morning tea that had been promised for afterwards.

I wish I could say that it went well and he sailed through it.  Sadly though it appears he has some hearing loss in his right ear.  It looks likely to be permanent.  Stink.  At least at the moment it's not affecting his schooling and he's doing well.  It just means that we have to keep going back for regular checks and make sure that he's not having any trouble in the classroom.  It could be so much worse.  Let's hope it doesn't increase over time.  Fingers crossed.

father and son

Soule Mama (a crafty mama blogger in the US) has a Friday ritual every week where she shares a photo on her blog of a single moment.  I was inspired by her this evening to take a couple of  sweet photos.  Usually I jump up from the dinner table to get things tidied and kids into baths etc, am so glad I slowed down tonight.

{this moment} - A Friday ritual. A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember.

Photos taken of us on our anniversary by my sister Katie (on our way to the icecream store for dessert).  Wish I'd taken my 5D (the good camera) with us that night.

I could have photoshopped us to look a bit more glam but this is us how we really are, looking a bit older these days but still very much in love...and planning to stay that way for a very very very long time.

up up and away

Gorgeous time watching my youngest reading with my Dad in the autumn sun this afternoon. Poppa was so impressed and the wee guy was so proud of himself.  Just beautiful.  He's growing up too fast though!  Anyone have any idea how to slow time for a while?

We've been baking up a storm this afternoon.  Loving the new electric beaters (even though they're a long way from my dream beaters).  #2 loved using them and he did a great job with hardly any assistance required.  He didn't need help with the licking part either!  No he hasn't grown hugely tall, he's standing on our step ladder.

Okay so you get two today.
Lucky.

photo of the day

It has the old watermark but really it's from 2009.
He was happy to wear the life jacket.
Once we got him into the ocean to try it out it was another story all together.
Much screaming and flailing and crying.
Later he had a fever.  Actually he probably has it in this photo.

Still on the meds for the rest of the month... aiming to avoid the hospital.

photo of the day

I took a lot of photos on our way to the lantern festival.
Here's another one.
I'm going to be doing this all week.

photo of the day

Taken on the walk home from kindy at lunch time.
As you can see the hair growing thing is going well :o)

Notice the perfectly round bruise on #1's chin?  He fell onto it while running on a tiled floor.  It looked for a while like he had a chin implant!  Also the angle of the photo makes him look much taller than his brother when actually they're almost the same height.  The little one is 2kg heavier though!

the very best way to travel

On the way to the Chinese New Year Lantern festival the boys got a lift from a very stong man we happened to come across.  Luckily he's always there for to pick us up when we need it.  We love you B.

closest he'll get to a little brother (or sister)

I bought him this sweet baby to look after recently.  I'm glad I didn't talk myself out of it (he's too old, it's too girly etc.) because he's really loving taking care of him.  The baby does have a pink bow but I am assured that it is in fact a boy.  Yesterday morning (when I took these photos) he was feeding him with two bottles, taking his temperature and tucking him into bed.  The other day baby had the asthma mask on his face!

The cushion on the bed I made from the offcuts of the Ikea curtains that Aunty D brought us back from Australia (I made two).  Just thought I'd mention that in case you're reading this Dianne.  They were very easy to sew.  Also we took the bunks apart at the weekend (at the boys' request) and despite the tiny floor space in their room, it feels quite nice for now.

inspired by Seuss

You probably didn't know it but yesterday was Dr Seuss's birthday.  We read the Cat in the Hat and Green Eggs and Ham and then ate some green eggs and ham for dinner.  The link is to the last time we had that for dinner.  I was feeling a little overwhelmed and not in the mood for photographing the food... just needed to get it into the hungry kids!

So this afternoon we tried a bit of Dr Seuss inspired art.  I found a blog by a kids art teacher and used her idea.  Here's the link if you were interested.  Once again our old shower curtain keeps the paint off of our table.  Sadly it always dominates any crafty photos.  Never mind... I'm aware that I'm just being fussy.  And here are the final results. So cute!

asthma sucks... yet again

Starship hospital is a great place but still we'd rather not spend any time there.

Saturday night we were there for a while.  B was going to stay with him but somehow I had this strong urge to be there with my wee boy (so far from a baby these days).  He's a lot better now but still a bit wheezy, asthma is really no fun.
