the amazing dinner - pacific island

This week the Amazing Race teams were staying on Bora Bora, an island in French Polynesia.  They had to do snorkeling and jet skiing and search for pearls.  The jet skiing looked really fun.  The boys arrived at dinner tonight looking like this!  I hadn't mentioned dressing up so it was quite funny.

We bought a mango and a young coconut for the first time ever.

Our experienced coconut guide, DaddyB, chopped off the top for us.

And everyone had a wee drink straight from the coconut.  Big brother didn't like it much but little brother had quite a bit to drink... then he said he didn't like it much either.  I saved the rest for our smoothies tomorrow.

For our Polynesian dinner we made poisson cru (raw fish marinated in lime and coconut cream with cucumber, spring onions and mango).  Not popular with either boy but they did try a couple of mouthfuls.  B and I really enjoyed it and there's a bit left for tomorrow too.

The pork and pineapple kebabs were pretty yummy.

We ate them with vermicelli noodles cooked chop suey style.

After dinner we sliced up the coconut flesh and gave that a try too.  So soft and squid like.  We ate it for dessert with pineapple, mango and coconut ice cream (recipe here).  Next week New Zealand!!
