MOTAT in the july school holidays

Motat is fun any time of year (especially at Halloween) and we head there most school holidays when we have a yearly pass.  These holidays our plans to visit the zoo were thwarted by gorgeous sunshine and mass crowds, so we ended up at Motat instead.  The boys and I had a fun day doing activities related to flight.

The boys made parachute men and strawkets.

Took a trip on a wee train/fire engine thing.

This part was really fun.  They constructed things from paper plates, cups and serviettes and then put them in a wind tunnel to see how they worked.  They could then add to or change their contraptions to improve them.  Some of the "drop copters" also went for a fly.

The boys had passports that they got stamped at the different stations.

Along with the holiday activities, the science roadshow was in town.  There was a lot to see including this man demonstrating the powers of liquid nitrogen (the balloon is about to pop). It's science term at school now and so hopefully they've gone back a little inspired... you never know.

breakfast of champions

Six weetbix and milk!  We had four hungry boys at our place this morning post sleepovers.  Our two usually eat three weetbix and then a couple of bits of toast which makes little brother take ages in the mornings.  We're thinking that perhaps more weetbix and less/no toast could be the go on school days.  What do your kids eat for breakfast?

8 - Both boys loved having little cousin Samuel here for the week.  This guy couldn't keep from hugging and cuddling him constantly... bubs didn't much like it after a while.
10 - Big brother is smiling as Sammy comes in for a smooch. He is LOVING the nintendo DS that he bought with his savings and birthday money.  I love gaming time.  He gets a limited time on it each day during the holidays and little brother and I have been playing Zelda on the Wii U.

turning 10

In July our oldest reached the double digits.  We decorated the table with wrapped pressies for him to open in the morning and strung up the bunting that we'd be taking to the party place later in the day.  We still use our play cloths for wrapping things, they're so versatile!

We were so lucky to have this wee darling staying with us from Christchurch (along with his parents,  my sister and husband).  As ten is quite a milestone we had a bigger than usual party at a laser tag place and it was fantastic.  I can see why people do these kind of parties all the time!

We took lots of water, gummy bears, chips, pretzels and cheerios to eat.  The laser tag was so much fun! Maybe I need to do a laser tag party for my 40th next year.

The cake was a simple chocolate cake with green coloured coconut and chocolate finger biscuits (which we removed for R).  The plastic toys on top were quite an inspired idea.  I'm really not that into birthday cake making to be honest, so I was pretty happy with how easy it was.

10 - happy birthday baby!  We made a super easy chocolate cake with Ewok action figures and chocolate fingers.  He celebrated with friends at Laser Strike (I want to have my 40th there!!).
8 - enjoying the gorgeousness that is the Time Out Bookstore in Mt Eden.  Bliss.  A great place to buy birthday gift vouchers with a lovely kids area at the back.

fishy

I am so behind in blogging.  My bloggy mojo has definitely left the building this year.  I'm not sure where it's gone but I'm only just really keeping up with the weekly posts... they are good though to keep it ticking over.  Life is full on and busy and perhaps some time I'll put more photos up but I'm not sure.  These are of some lovely trout that B smoked a couple of months back.  I quite love doing food photography.  Must go to bed now...
