converse

I love converse shoes and the boys and I got a new pair each in the holidays.  Mine are the grey shoes.  No shoes will ever live up to the awesomeness that are my Wonder Woman sneakers but they're still pretty cute.

keeping myself in the picture

I remember reading an article a while back about mothers not being keen to be photographed, and a kind of movement to encourage us to be in the picture. As the photographer I'm often behind the camera but found these on my phone and decided there needed to be some piccys of me on the blog too. Photos from summer, face paint, no makeup, make up... it's all good! I'm forty this year!

splore 2015

Splore was once again a feast for the senses. This year I didn't take a camera, just my phone. We camped in the Theme Camp area with our "Makey Connection" camp. Not much sleep was had due to some noisy Wellington neighbors so we have plans to sleep elsewhere next time.

Team Larnach had the most amazing bird costumes for the Saturday night and we cobbled together some Peter Pan themed outfits.

Highlight #1 was performing at Splore with my wonderful water ballet troupe, The Wet Hot Beauties.  We performed on five Saturdays in Feb/March and I think the Splore show was my favourite.

It was so much fun to be joined by fifty or so festival goers in bathing hats, including our two boys.  The kids loved it so much they joined us for the next show too (will post a photo sometime).

Highlight #2 of the festival was seeing the Correspondents in the Living Lounge.  They were unbelievably good.  To be honest I hadn't even heard of them until a week or two before.  If you ever get a chance to see them live JUST DO IT!

dryer repurposing

So we've been without a dryer for a few months now (has both good and bad points) and we decided to use the old drum as a fire of sorts.  It wasn't quite what I'd seen on pintrest but it turned out pretty cool, and perfect for toasting marshmallows or sitting around at night.

egg hunt

A local real estate agent runs an Easter Egg hunt each year.  This was our first (and last, as it's only for ten and under) and the kids had a great time.  R knew he wouldn't be able to run (with the cast) or eat (dairy allergy) any of the eggs but still wanted to participate.  Big brother got bonus eggs and I took fooze balls and fruit bursts to trade.  It was very well run.  Each kid 6-10yrs, ran and grabbed one ball each, then ran through a roped off maze bit and traded their ball for an egg.  Then they did it all over again.  The smaller kids could have Mum or Dad help them and were in a totally separate spot.  There were free hot cross buns on a bbq, a coffee vendor (thank goodness), a clown and a fairy, and of course the Easter Bunny himself.
